Scotland's --- west coast bike trip

Its pish.
The midgies will eat you. (Like you wish your wife would.)
Speed cameras everywhere.
It WILL rain.
The locals will hate you.
Food is pish.
Overpriced.Petrol is a rip off
Do you have an Engerlish accent.
The locals will hate you.
Petrol is extortionate.
Exchange rate is terrible.
Sheep in the middle of the roads.
Locals in the middle of the roads. (Probably pished!)
It WILL rain.
HTH

The West coast is on my to do list this year. I've been told that Applecross is well worth visiting.:thumb I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.:beerjug:

Applecross should be on everyones bucket list....the only problem is....it is...and can be stowed out. The Inn is great for grub...if you can find a space. The Potting Shed on the other side of the bay also does good grub.

Or the other thing to do is go, like I do, in December....not so good for the bike though.

The best road for the bike though, is from Ullapool to Durness to Bettyhill. Bar none.

scotland

hi.i :agree with delboy777,as I run trips to Scotland, etc but go up to ullapool and further up it gets much better, the only thing petrol can be hard to find on sundays so keep filling up when you can,not all bikes carry the same as the gs adventure cheers ken:natter

If you pm me your e-mail address I can send the garmin route we did last year (and prob will again this spring).

Fort william to skye to applecross to ullapool to loch ness is a good starter for ten!

Myself and herself are herself are heading in May. I must keep an eye on this thread.

How bloody true, stayed up at Uig afew years back, the bloke who ran the B&B was more than a bit strange, went into the boozer on the quay side and it was remenisent of the slaughtered lamb on american werewolf in london, one chap hated bikers and said he was gona put oil down on the road to stop all the bikers,I said I was gona knock his head right fuckin off, one of our lot said we should leave as there was only 4 of us and 30,40 of them, then one of them came onto our team t
elling oil boy just what a c..t he was,all ended up ok but we were all happy to pack up and piss off the following morning.
Uigs great to catch the ferry to the Outter Hebs from, and thats all.

Anyone know if trains can transport the bike to scotland instead of the long slog there?

Just jump on the A1 as far as Ripon (about 3 hours, but it does have some twisty-ish bits) and then take a cross-country route from there, stopping somewhere between the border and Edinburgh for the first night.

A887/A87 Invermoriston to Kyle of Lochalsh passing Eilean Donan Castle. Fast open flowing road, best in UK for bikes it is said.
For roads that are a little more challenging then try these. ;) :augie
A832 Garve to Kinlochewe then A896 Over Torridon to Shieldaig and down the Applecross peninsula to Applecross itself. Then over the Bealach Na Ba too Lochcarron. Then if you like A890 too Achnasheen,..............two or three of the best roads anywhere.:D

+1, but don't forget to follow the road north of Ullapool as far as Tonge. The A939/A93 through the Cairngorms is pretty special too.

It's even sunny sometimes :D http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showth...d-April-2011-Days-1-amp-2-Dunoon-to-Tobermory

+1 for this option and i have some great routes from Ripon Northwards that i can probably mail (GPX files) although i prefer to make it as far as Perth (ish) then fresh the next day for some cracking routes !

Looks like the humour in GCs post has went right over your head.

I didn't see any humor in it. Stereotypical view of what the Scots are about. Nothing more and certainly not funny.

Why bother coming up here then if that's what you think Scottish people are about?

PS I know a good number of GSers from down your way who've enjoyed GCs company and hospitality. I doubt if they would agree with you but hey, that's what opinions are all about.

I tend to stop in Perth if heading up the east side or Inverary/Tobermory if heading up the West Coast, but as I'm starting from the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales, I don't have to touch any motorways or dual carriageways ;)
