Scotland's --- west coast bike trip

After the last two years trips to Spain and France (both 'very' wet) I am looking to have this years bike trip in the Sunny Isles of Scotland's West Coast, I have yet to trawl through the threads here, so any helpful places 'not' to miss and good places to stay, best route's etc
Come tell me where I should go and what not to miss

What time of year are you thinking ?
What kind of accommodation are you thinking of ?

Coolcarbon of this parish used to run tours of the Western Isles. He is no longer operating but has a website HERE and I'm sure if you contact him he will be able to provide you with some useful ideas. He currently lives in the South West too!

A887/A87 Invermoriston to Kyle of Lochalsh passing Eilean Donan Castle. Fast open flowing road, best in UK for bikes it is said.
For roads that are a little more challenging then try these.
A832 Garve to Kinlochewe then A896 Over Torridon to Shieldaig and down the Applecross peninsula to Applecross itself. Then over the Bealach Na Ba too Lochcarron. Then if you like A890 too Achnasheen,..............two or three of the best roads anywhere.

These roads really separate the men from the boys, also try the oban to campbeltown.
if really adventurous try the A9 from perth to wick. enjoy.

I took a trip up there a few years back and thoroughly enjoyed myself - some great roads. A trip to Skye is a must - had a great night at the Flogidary hostel, (£15 a night or something ??), eating at the Flogidary hotel which was just 100 yards away. We followed a route that is well trodden in those sort of classic west coast bike trips - I'll try and dig out the michelin map and find the roads we used ...

A trip to mull is a must. A trip to skye a must. A trip to Islay a must and trip to applecross a must. So many good roads in scotland and not enough time to ride them. My bestie road is Oban to Lochgilphead. Scotland Rocks.

Yep I agree I keep going back every year! This years trip is to the Outer Hebrides, I am very fond of Durness not much there but that's what I love a great camp site with stunning views a pub next door and the roads in and out are some of the best!

Have you tried Lickisto campsite on Harris,bloody fantastic.
Been going for the last few years now,I dont think you can beat Scotland.
go all over western and eastern europe and Scotland is by far my favorite place to be.
Get "cool camping scotland"its a great book full of top camping spots.

go all over western and eastern europe and Scotland is by far my favorite place to be.
Get "cool camping scotland"its a great book full of top camping spots.

I am sure that has come up before and the answer was no!
I do it in a day. Usually 600 miles each way it's not that bad just a bit boring until north of Glasgow or Inverness

For that part of my trip I was looking at staying at Horgabost as I thought the beaches looked nicer! Have you stayed at both ?
