Anybody had problems down loading to the SP111 with V7 installed.

Mapsource won't recognise the SP, yet I can upload a route from the SP111 to Mapsource.

The SP111 is set to Garmin as instructed.

The error message says that no device was found.

P.S I've been using the SP111 without too much trouble for about a year and a half so I am lost as to why it should suddenly have a download problem.

A couple of questions:

What version of Mapsource do you have loaded?

What are you trying to download?

Mike:)

Hi Mike,

Its Mapsource 6.5 and all I am trying to do is download basic routes, no differebt form the ones i've typpically been downloading since I had the unit.

Cheers

Paul

Hhmm... Not sure then Paul.

I've noticed a spell of people with older versions of Mapsource having difficulty loading recently, and thought maybe it was something to do with later versions of the mapping software having a conflict.

Are you using a serial port, or a USB-to-serial-port converter to connect the unit to your PC? If it's the latter, you might try changing to a different USB port.

Also, download the latest USB drivers - they're on the same page as the other downloads, IIRC...

Mike:)

Mike,

I'm using the serial port data cable as supplied by Garmin with the SP111 battery powered so no change in this configuration.

The strange thing is that I did manage to download one half of a route then went to download the second half a minute later only to be told that no unit was connected.

I've retried to download several times since with the same negative results.

I've e-mailed Garmin for some ideas so hopefully they'll respond soon.

P.S. Thanks for your thoughts
Regards

Paul

I get this all the time. Try following:

Reboot SP111 while trying to locate device

Wiggle input lead to unit in attempt to find it

Wiggle Serial cable plug after loosing it slightly

Reboot PC and try again

Try a different route to download to it to establish initial connection

One of these usually works eventually

Good Luck

Thanks Tony,

Done all that, I am pretty positive its a mapsource V7 registration issue as my V5 works fine when downloading.

I've just reentered my 25 digit unlock code and a message returned saying I have successfully registered the product.

But still no joy.

I've had a SPIII since they first came out. Never had a problem - that is until I updated Mapsource. Now I have the problem you describe. I've swapped emails with Garmin, but they trot out a standard response about checking conflicts with pdas, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mapsource itself has bug*ered up your setup. Unfortunately, re-installing an older version doesn't help. The cynic in me thinks it's a cunning ploy to get us to buy a later Garmin product More likely, it's a f*ck up by Garmin, but they've given up detailed support for the old SP.

I'm not changing it, though.

chasr,

My V5 seems to work fine, I've got both option loaded on the computer so I'll just have to stick with V5 and argue the toss with Garmin.

Sorted

Chasr,

I called Garmin today and they asked me to upload the Mapsource 6.6 Beta (Trial version). I downloaded the new software and the issue has cleared. I can now download waypoints/routes etc from city Nav V7.

Recommend you call Garmin and they'll run you through a few check and advise on set-up, they were very helpful to be honest.

Regards
