The removal of the tracker so quickly is alarming (no pun intended). I was going to get the BMW Road Angel fitted on my new Triple when it goes in for the running in service, but having second thoughts now!

Gutted to hear about the theft. Hope everything works out ok for you.

Just wondering then ...the thieves must have stripped the bike down in a van or something, immediately. I wonder if they were looking for the tracker or just found it by chance.

I think , with a new one in the garage, i would have been prepared to pay extra to have one fitted in the bike at the factory, or as part of the ECU as a permanent option.
Either way I am sorry to hear of your loss, she was a cracking looking bike.

Sorry to that mate, mine went early November never to be seen again.
Just wish you could catch the bastards and make sure they never do it to anyone else anger: It absolutely boils my blood.
Good luck with your insurance claim buddy.
All the best
JJ

Triple Black GSA?

.

Probably under the seat ! there's certain restrictions on where you can hide them due to blocking the signal, my thoughts are you need a decoy, cheap ebay placed under the seat and the real deal hidden elsewhere .

Triple Black GSA?

No, 2017 MY GS TE with keyless, panniers / top box and quick shifter.

I've purchased the black akra slip on, touratec frame guards, side stand extender, rad guards, rear master cylinder guard, hand guard extenders, puig screen, screen brackets, BMW cylinder protectors, F&R mudslingers and a few other bits I can't remember :D

Its Christmas so I treated myself.

Part exchanged my K1600 GTLE. What a machine! I'll miss it a lot, but the GS meets my current needs as I use my bike to commute everyday, and the K1600 was like riding a articulated lorry in the Oxford stop/start morning traffic.

When I've sobered up, I'll tell you what you forgot to order!:D

On the new GS/As The ABS pro system sits under the rear seat which means the tracker has to be pushed further into the rear, and I'm sure will confuse the dirty low life thieves, But I agree the tracker units are still to big , when I saw them fitting my one I was astonished! A Decoy is a great idea.

Thanks all for the support guys....still have to get used to the idea that the bike is gone...

About the tracker....police told me they got the bastard on cctv in a road less than a mile out of where i live....they stopped the bike did something to it and 5mins later they were gone.
Later in the afternoon one of the road angel technicians...went on that road to recover the tracker and found it on the side of the road.

So my idea is that they have some sort of scanner.
They take the bike, hide somewhere, scan it to see if there is any tracker and remove it.
The problem is that that it took them 5 minutes to locate it and remove it.
Not only that...they bypassed some how the bmw immobiliser and the alert system of the road angel cause i haven't received any sms or email.

So i guess when they target someone....maybe only few expensive chains locked top a ground anchor could be a deterrent.
but I am afraid if they r committed...it won't be enough.

Anyways lets see how it goes with the insurance, and hopefully with some extra savings i ll be able to get another one before the summer.

Not that any insurance or savings or anything will fill the sentimental value of that bike.
but at least i ll keep doing what i like the most.

Have some great holidays everyone and thanks again for the support.

Paolo

Thanks for the update Paolo, so sorry for your loss. I was thinking, perhaps a good disk lock might have stopped them from riding off. I use an alarmed zena, but when all is said and done, nothing is full proof.

What is worrying , is that it only took so little time to getaway with it.

I really, genuinely, hope the thieves die, painfully and slowly, no I'm not kidding!

Very sorry to read about your loss. Any explanation as to why the expensive tracker failed to work? Was looking at one in my local dealers but now having doubts as to spending the £400 fitted quote I got.

Thieves who know what they are doing will have a tracker disabled in no time. Not many places you can hide one on a bike. I aren't fitting one to mine.

I've decided to have the Biketrac fitted to mine. This tread highlighted the issue of how east they are to remove if there not hidden well, so I've book mine in with my local BMW dealer and asked that they ensure its put somewhere where anyone thief would have to remove a lot of panels and parts to get it it, and I'll pay the extra labour cost to ensure this is done.

Do these trackers connect to your phone by bluetooth at all for admin etc if so the bluetooth could be how the thieves are finding out if the bikes have the trackers fitted and why they seem to remove them so quick?
