Suggest you keep an eye on rear pad wear , as dealer told us to check. What we found was that all three of us had rear pads almost down to metal, at 3800 miles!!!!. Dealer warning to check must mean others have had same issue.Seems to me pads too soft as I usually get around 9000 miles in fact last TC had 15000 and still only 60% worn.

Best keep an eye on yours.:nenau

My rear pads were down to the metal at the first service and I very rarely use the rear brake. They were replaced under warranty.

I'd better check mine, as I use the rear brake a lot. Now, where are the rear brakes?:D

Paul did BMW agree warranty, what dealer was this, mine have only done 3800 so will put warranty claim as its ridiculous low mileage!!!!!! Pads too soft.

You are using it anyway as its linked brakes on LC.

What is wrong with 4000 miles on the brake pads?

I used to 5000 front and 4000 rear on ZZR 14 .
As the brakes are linked, I don't see a 7 exclamation marks tragedy here

I don't understand how so many people can be so dissapoinetd in LC on this forum. I never experienced so many people being so extremaly alerted by the bike that is so advanced as new GS.
Its as you all guys made the biggest mistake in your life.

How about you buy Paningale and change carbon brakes worth of 3000 every 500 miles?

15000 miles my ass.

Hey Baja...my last GS - 20,000 miles and the pads still had life in them.

I bet there will be people on here that exceeded that too.

Sounds like you ride the brakes a bit ?

Rear Pad Wear

Had eight GS's love the bike it's brilliant, but for a bike designed for long distances, do I really want to change rear pads every 10 weeks , I don't thinks so,BMW have had issues with soft pads before.i don't actually use brakes that often, preferring to use gears to control speed. As stated usually on last 7 GS's got between 9 and 14 thousand, and no don't ride slow I ride progressively .Dealer also very surprised .as for linked brakes front pads are as new.

As for complaining about LCD, I've seen nothing but praise on site, personally it's the best GS out of the eight I've owned to date.

I'm surprised that after some 1 million miles in the testing BMW didn't issue a warning for owners to switch 'brake mode' off before the next ride.

Martin

My dealer is Motorrad Central in Dalkeith, Edinburgh.

The Service Manager pointed out that they had found the pads were down to the metal in 600 miles. I got my bike early March and did the miles in 5 days in really shitty weather; ice, snow salt etc.

I thought the rear might have been sticking due to crud from this. Dealer didn't quibble and replaced them free of charge.

:eek:What the hell are you doing with those brakes. Just changed my rear pads for the first time from new. 30000 miles.and they weren't on the metal.
Front pads still quite a way to go.
I must just be a very smooth rider:D.........................................Or very slow:blast

On what bike?
I've done 4k on the WC and the back brake pads are shot. Never had this on my last 3 GS's or indeed anyother Jap bike. I'm pretty sure its not my riding and like GSMAN1 I prefere to use the engine braking.
Having said that I love the bike and hopefully its just a teething problem.:thumb

Here's mine after 3500 miles.

Many miles left on them?:nenau

First set of rears lasted 17,000 miles and the second set are current at 27,000 miles but I know how to use gears and roadcraft.

Oh. I am sorry then.
I just started last monday and have no experience in riding
This is my first bike and I never used brakes and engine before , let alone elussive Roadcraft !!

When OP started post with WARNING and multiple exclamation marks it clearly shows that he might miss the big point of LC that is integrated brakes.

You can keep on comparing LC to previous GS, keep on moaning and use your roadcraft as much as you want to save 30£ on a brakepads but bike will use rear anyway without you even knowing it.

Don't be such a dick! No modern bike, unless ridden full throttle to full brakes all the time, should have bare rear pads after 3800 miles! Another example, my RT had front and rear wear at 10% at 6000 miles service - also linked braking ('partially' - whatever the f*** that's supposed to mean :blast)

It's a very appropriate warning for riders who are used to having their rear pads outlast their ownership of a particular model of bike. So well done OP and thanks! Baja - go fold yourself back into your Power-Ranger suit and wheelie your minimoto/pocket-rocket up someone else's arse! :dabone

Typical of shite brake design

Just imagine buying a new car - any make - and finding the brake pads to the metal in under 4000 miles.
You would return it and ask for money back.
Not fit for purpose.
My 1200rt needs new pads with every back tyre - just under 6000 miles. If I do not fit sintered, it will be under 4000 miles.
Every car I have ever had exceeds 30,000 on a set of pads.
Front brake pads on every BMW motorcycle I have owned exceed 35,000 miles.
SHITE SHITE SHITE design.
