Which oil ?

Well, that was my first foray into the wc section.

Why do they get better decor and fancy lighting?

And how the heck do they make it smell like fresh bread and perculated coffee?

I guess that this has been asked a thousand times before, so I'll brace myself to be ridiculed.
But, can you tell me where I can buy some Castrol Power 1 racing 5W40?
I've searched and you can get some 1L bottles on ebay with very high postage costs. Does anyone know a cheaper place?

BMW dealers, although I got some on eBay from Germany!

How long before there's a "dont ask anything about oils" sticky on the WC section?

Use what BMW recommend (ideally in writing) then no worries about warranty. HHCIB?

I picked up 4 qts at the dealer where it was priced $11.50 each but they gave me 10% off since I just purchased the GS. A 6-qt pack of the spec'd Castrol 06410 Power RS 5W-40 4-Stroke Motorcycle Oil is around $45 ($7.50 per qt). I plan to just use it since it's the same oil with out BMW's label.

vines bmw dealers castrol power 1 4t 15w-50 is now recommended by them.

Normally you do, but didn't BMW change the recommended oil, in light of the gearbox issues with earlier bikes?

No they didn't as far as I know - my bike has always had the same oil - the quantity was reduced at the 12,000 mile service (from max down to half way in the window) but the oil type has always been the same. Castrol Power 1 Racing.

There is a lot of mis-information about!

P.S. one of the great things about the LC is that it doesn't consume oil - just change it at the service intervals and then forget about it, the level never seems to drop, so non of this carry a litre bottle of oil around with you when you go on a long trip - if it is less than 6,000 miles then no worries - unlike the old 1150 shitters that seemed to drink as much oil as petrol :D

Please include your wisdom below amongst it.

I've never carried oil. Garages all over the world sell it if needed.

Plus a few rides to morocco and back on my old shitter 1150 and never needed any oil. And very very rarely have i ever needed to top it up between services...

Don't buy it its most likely the car type. and not JASO spec for motorcycles. if your not sure then get your dealer to do the service. car type spec oil will knacker your clutch.
