Why won't my socket fit?

This sounds daft! I'm changing the spark plugs in my 2008GSA.
As I understand it all four are the same size/type.
So, main plugs came out a treat with my quite slim 16mm plug socket. Then tried to use same socket on the secondaries and it wouldn't go into the recess where they are located. A 15mm socket would, but of course it's too small to fit the plug.

What the hell tool do you use to get these plugs out?

Or is it me?

I use a BMW box spanner which I got with my 2004 bike. Sockets seem to have too much wall thickness to fit.

I bought a long, thin-wall plug socket from Halfords last year, I think it was branded as Laser but don't know the part number, sorry.

It's a 16mm thin-wall.
My standard 16mm plug socket won't fit either.

Bought a slightly slimmer plug socket today - literally 1mm or 2mm slimmer - and it works.
Would never have been needed with a BSA Bantam! Made bikes with a bit of tolerance in those days.
