am i too small ?

5.6 29 leg
I'm riding an 09 GSA and dropped it for the first time last night. :blast I was stationary at the time. When I realised it was going I just slowly laid the beast down, so no damage done. :augie

Dont be put off though. I love it

I have 29" inside leg and have the factory lowered standard 1200GS. Now I am used to the bike and it's weight, I don't mind riding the standard height version and in fact often ride the lowered one with a standard seat fitted in the high position which brings the height up to above that of the low seat on the standard height bike.

As such If I bought another I probably would not spec the lower shocks and get the ESA instead, although personally I think the GSA is a bit too big,

What

I recently trailed round some local BMW dealers looking at both 800 & 1200GS models. All three dealers took one look at my height 5'8" and 29" leg and said no way. I asked about trying a low seat and they weren't interested. Really put me off trying to get a GS and I ended up getting another bike instead (with 810mm seat height).
Yes, it would have been my first bike but even so, they just were not helpful in any way.

I still would like to gt a GS at some point, hence the fact I'm still on this site. Maybe one day :(

Man thats nonsense, I have a 29 inside leg I have had a 1200A for three years, thirty thousand miles into owning it Im more than happy with the seat hieght. OK yes it can be a stretch occasionally but not enough to stop me riding it. If you want a GS get one. I can not think of many occasions where I need both feet on the ground.

The dealers must be mad

hi all,im new to this gs thing, at the moment ive got a pan european 1300 that im considering trading in for a 1200 gs but ive only got 29" inside legs, is this bike too tall for me ? and will the other half be ok, she will be sitting higher up on the pillion than the pan .

Hello Mate,me short in the leg department too but now have a GSA with the low seat from a standard GS.
You'll be fine, plus if you have the ESA on it,with the Bike on 'comfort' mode its easy to get both feet down.Jack it up when loaded or with the missus on the back and again, its easy cos the weight of one or the other brings the bike lower again ! Seemple !!
:D:D:D

short arse

I'M 5.8'' and i got the 2010 GS with all the toys and a low seat no problem at all, just take your time at first and get used to the bike im even thinking of getting a normal hight seat now.GO FOR IT!:thumb2:thumb2:beerjug:

I'm 5'1" :D and 28.8" inside leg :comfort and I struggle to get my leg over Geriatric Germ :rob when he is flat on his back

cant be arsed to read all thge posts

so if you need to ask if your too small then

yes you are.

howdee though:)

I always thought I had a 29.5" inside leg, but after being fitted for a suit (mate's wedding) I was shocked to find out they'd written 28.5" on my order. Perhaps not the first time I've lost an optimistic inch..

Anyway, on a recent tour I dropped the 1150 twice - both times off camber with some gravel, and loaded. Just be careful at slow speed and when you're unsure of the footing.

If your arms are as short as your legs, you'll need some risers/backs or you'll get some pain on long journeys. They're on my shopping list.

On the plus side, being a shot arse means you don't have to visit any of those threads about buffeting, and you'll save money on various screens. I sit behind my £30 ermax screen at 100mph and hum to myself contentedly :augie

Should not be a probem I have a 29" inside leg and ride a 1200GSA, you do have to look where you park it or which side to put your foot down but its no real problem. The GS is lower

any one know what the lowest seat option is with a gsa i ride a gs 1200 with no problems but am getting conflicting reports

I have a 30" inside leg, and had the seat lowered, you lot must have to be careful with a 29", it takes care not to stop in the wrong places, people have asked me "can you get on it " :D
Just remember not to leave it in 2 person mode on the electronics, I did this last week, and the floor was a fair bit further away at the 1st set of lights

seats

OK 29" inside leg on a 1200GS, I find the BMW low seat perfect for giving that little bit of extra confidence or one of the aftermarket seats. I will be selling my BMW low seat (as new condition) soon so let me know if you are interested. The pillion will love the seating position and better view on the GS.[/QU

would you know what seat will reduce the height on a gsa and by how much
