BMW goodwill for front engine cover

My bike is a gsa 90 edition and the paint is failing around where the securings are. Nothing serious or ugly but it is starting and I wanted to catch it early. The bike goes in on the 16th to be done. Bike has covered 8k miles and sits in the garage for long periods due to work commitments. It has a fender extender but no additional front plate/cover.

That's how my 08 GSA looked after many more years and miles.

The cover paint is uber tough so corrosion can creep under quite badly before you notice theres a problem. The only fix is to have the cover fully stripped (BioStrip works fine) and repainted or powder coated. Also sit the drive belt cover on washers so the plastic edges can't fret against the paint and set off a load more corrosion.

Things aren't going too well. The first cover to arrive at the dealers was the wrong colour so I had to keep hold of the RS loaner for another day. Fully expecting to get my bike back today and I've received another call telling me the second attempt has had the wrong part arrive again. Some one needs to check their part numbers I think.

All done and dusted today. I paid the labour and BMW supplied the parts.

Well it gets even worse. I went out to the garage yesterday and there was a puddle of oil under the bike. A quick call to the dealers and they sent a van to come and collect my bike. So now I have no bike and an oily stain on my garage floor.

The oil seal is very easy to damage and the crank position sensor O ring. How would I know that.

Well I have my bike back and it is leak free. It did take 2 x engine covers(wrong colour), 1 x engine cover(right colour but defective on receipt), 1 x engine cover right colour and now leak free.

And once again I now have another oil leak from where the front cover was changed. Getting more than just a bit silly now. A call to the dealers tomorrow to come and collect it again.

But it's paint you're protecting - ACF50 ain't the best for that, is it?

Its working on my bike anyway and wont harm paint in any way.

I did my front cover DIY. The issue was having to wait while the cover was stripped and coated then I boogered the new oil seal and had to replace it.

Tips
Use good quality anti corrosion grease on the cover bolts right up to the heads.
Fit the cover without the oil seal. Fit the new seal as you would if it was being replaced.
Use anaerobic instant gasket as this will set only in the joint (e.g. Loctite 518). Avoid silicone gasket as over-use can lead to clogged oil galleries.
Check the Hall Effect sensor housing isn't corrosion pitted as that will also leak nicely.
Trim the thin flange off the edge of the belt cover and mount the cover on washers. This stop the plastic edge rubbing away at the new paint.
