Hi All,

I have a Garmin Streetpilot 3 Deluxe which is now obsolete unfortunately, Does anyone know how I could update this or am I stuck with what I have. I have tried Garmin and they say that they do not do updated software, I don't believe for one minute that this cannot be done.

Cheers in advance for any help.

Depends if you mean software for the unit or mapping. I'm sure Garmin won't bother with any software updates on the unit, but there's no reason I'm aware of that you can't use the latest V9 mapping just released.

Thanks, and where would I get that, on the Garmin web site?

Cheers,

Yes. It'll cost you around £50 to update to City Nav V9.

The SPIII may be old, but it still does what it was designed to do, albeit slowly. You have to balance the cost of upgrading the mapping plus, maybe, a new datacard (if you're still using the original datacard, it'll be too limiting with the current more memory grabbing mapping) against the cost of a new unit. I understand GPSW still have offers on the Quest - which will come with the latest mapping, is less limited by memory (tho' still only 256mb) and much faster than the SPIII. You might get a few pounds off ebay for the SPIII which would also help.

There are many other GPS units worth considering if you do decide to upgrade. Your call.

ps. Don't ask which one you should buy; there's loads of info on this forum - just read :thumb2
