More growl!

I'm looking around to see what stock item I can change that will make the biggest impact on the growl of the GS when blipping the throttle.

Not necessarily louder but just a better bike noise -- blipping the throttle in traffic to let car drivers know I'm there.

My mate blipped his ducati (with termis) right in front of me and it was like moses parting the sea!

The options I've read about here are the headers and exhaust, anything else I should consider?

I know thunders done the works, but I can't afford to do that just yet!

Any suggestions welcome, cheers.

If it's noise you're after, you'll be wanting an akrapovic end can. If you're really after NOISE get some remus headers as well. Take the baffle out and you'll be giggling like a child every time you blip the throttle. Oh and it sounds like all hell's breaking loose at full chat, and the popping on the overrun is nice too. Put the baffle in and it'll just sound more beefy, but not too loud.

As far as I see it, the end can will give you more noise, but the headers will give you a little bit more power.

Not much else you can do, perhaps something with the air intake to give you a bit of induction roar, but I'd start with the exhaust.

When it comes to MOT time, will the system pass the ommisions test?
I only ask because I rode superbikes for years and got used to having a bit of a roar that would rattle the windows in a small village, but the GS just doesn`t cut it in that dept..

I changed to a BOS end can. Not too noisy, but when you rev it it has a bit more of an edge to it. Proper hanger too unlike the Acro can. Nice price too from SS in the UK

The thing is,the boxer engine doesn't really have a very nice sound.

I used to run my Akra on my GSA with baffle out,but when I fitted the Remus headers,I found it too loud,so the baffle is back in.

But my Ducati Sport Classic has Termis and no baffles and sounds fantastic,even though very loud.

But I would say changing the headers will give you as much noise as changing the end can.

Compromise?............I read on another forum of a guy who drilled a bunch of holes in the baffle, anyone here modded a baffle in anyway?

Anyway, why does one want to blip the throttle in the first place......? I thought that that was what the Harley riders have to do from stopping their two wheeled tractor from stalling?.......and of course the tear away brigade with their bottom's in the air!

Since you're local, feel free to listen to my '07 GS on its full Remus system at a mutually convenient time. I think you'll find that it "cuts it".

Joking aside, take an advanced riding course with IAM or ROSPA, you will learn not to rely on other road users seeing you and always put your bike where its safe, when you ride to an advanced level you will be leaving all the traffic behind you, silently with no fuss or noise, much more satisfying.

Also did you know that most insurance companies will not pay out to repair your bike after an accident if you have a non road legal can fitted, check your small print.

I agree with you colin re positioning yourself to be seen (and I'm also IAM) but there's at least a couple of potential flaws in some circumstances flaws....

Yes, it works!.........good example: on an occasion when I'd positioned myself badly behind 'white van man' at a junction, he obviously changed his mind which direction he was turning and started reversing at me - hitting the horn (standard) had no effect however a twist of the throttle giving a good blast from my Arrow exhaust (on my F650 that I had at the time) had him check his mirrors and saved the day! ;-)

And I'm still interested to hear if anyone has modified their Remus baffle?

I've done an advanced course with IAM, but there's still idiots who pull out/open a door when you're filtering, being a bit louder makes them notice you.
