Munros - where to start?

Except the Cobbler isn't a Munro

True but if you read my post and the one I responded to, you'll find that neither of us said it was! :D If i remember right though, the Cobbler can be knocked off as part of a ridge walk via a couple of Munros? Some latter day Tom Weir will be along shortly to fill in the gaps.

Timely to see this thread up and running, I fly up tomorrow :D

I'm staying in Crianlarich for a few nights to explore a little of the Trossachs, Then I'm going up to Glencoe for a few nights. I'll let you know which ones I do when I get back.

Kick off with the Aonach Eagach in Glencoe..as long as you don't come down by the Clachaig gully....that'll whet the appetite.

One of the more accessable munros is Ben Lawers at Loch Tay,your up nearly half the height when you park yor car ,its well pathed you cant go wrong ,Its about 10 feet shy of 4000 foot and if your feeling adventurous there are another four or five munros along the ridge.Like Ben Lomond its a kinda Tourist hill think its owned by the National trust or whatever but a good starter hill never the less.:beerjug:

Well folks, after 13 years, I finally finished my Munro's on saturday.
Sad as it is, heres some statistics for you. . . .over the years I walked/grovelled/climbed 1732 miles and a staggering 521,000 foot of ascent in total.

And what did my mate buy me as a "well done" gift ? . . . . . . .The Corbetts book.

The bastid him !

As Im from South of the "Border", I have to say you guys are very lucky having all that scenery on your doorstep. Can I come in please ?

Nice one

Been up 2 on Tuesday and 2 yesterday, hope more tomorrow, it's a good excuse to out and about

God, highlight hill ?
I dunno. Ive had great days on hills where I couldnt see a darn thing/blizzard conditions etc, and then days on hills that should have been good ruined by being plain exhausted (from the day before usually).
The CMD arete to The Ben in winter conditions stand out, as does another epic where I got dropped off at Spean Bridge and "ran" over the Grey Corries to Glen Nevis. (I must say that after that trip, I spent 3 days in a YHostel doing nowt but laying flat, reading and eating choclotate, absolutely boll**d !)

Scariest, On Liathach without doubt. A lady had sadly fallen to her death the day before and her fall had taken out the "Lower" path I was on. I had to leap a 3 foot gap with a 2000 foot drop under, and next to me. Pharp !

I SHOULD have been scared when I did The Saddle but I went over it in appallingly wet and foggy weather, and visibility was down to a few feet. I do know I put moves in that arent in any climbing manual (arms holding me above what I presume was a gaping chasm, with legs dangling in mid air)

Good forecast for tomorrow as well so today was log chopping, had to be done

There are a few within a couple of miles that I go up regularly just for the fresh air and stretch the legs
