Warning !!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have any rear brake pads on my R100r :-)

It has K1 brakes on the front (twin semi floating 4 pot Brembos) and drum brakes on the rear.

I suppose they average out to a reasonable set of brakes.:bounce1

My '04 1200GS used to eat 'BMW' rear pads (in less than 6k I recall)

Replaced them with EBC HH's normal wear rates ensued.......

At 73k miles four sets of pads front and rear, with new front discs at 55k and rear disc at 20k. New rear disc was still fine (as were the fronts) with the EBC HH's at 73k, so assume it was the soft OE pads that did for it!

Just read this thread and the pad wear on some of your bikes does seem very high.

Is there a chance the traction control uses the brake to stop wheelspin?

This accounts for very high pad wear and disc temperatures in some of the brake applications we have tested on mainly rear wheel drive cars with traction control enabled and lots of power to control.

I've always put down my rear brake wear due to my habbit of using the brake to tame so many wheelies. Its the torque of the 1150 that does the dammage ;)

1150 and torque in the same sentence, that can't be right - surely you mean 1200LC ;)

When OP started post with WARNING and multiple exclamation marks it clearly shows that he might miss the big point of LC that is integrated brakes.

Errmm, it's not a new LC thing....... they've been using intergrated linked brakes since 2003. ;)

How about no and i stick here to keep on whingeing to help you feel superior.

Your doubts are nothing but doubts so whats your Point?

You stick in there Baja, Do what I do and don't subscribe and keep winding the winging gits up, You will find the odd expert on here who when they run out of anything sensible to say, and there thoughts or experiences are challenged seem to revert to who's opinion is valid and who's is not, and as I understand it you don't need to be a subscriber to be insulted on this site:thumb2

Mine are worn out at 4500miles,dealer has never heard of the premature wear problem,Im booked in for Thursday.
Has anyone had there pads replaced free ?
Whats reasonable to expect?

According to someone on the adv forum, dealers in North America will replace rear pads FOC if worn prematurely:thumb

I spoke to the dealer today:blagblah:blagblah. They did a set on pads on there demo in 2000 miles. the other demo with badly worn pads at 1500 miles.:blast

That's crackers. If BMW replace mine FOC, then great, if not, I'll not be buying BMW pads, that's for sure.:rob

Brakes a linked so you wouldn't expect having the same mileage out of them because you Do NOT control their wear fully as on previous bikes.

OP might be using brakes a bit too much or drag them and they will wear obviously faster, you guys scream outrage even thou none of you know the reason or have an issue with your own.

I am absolutely in awe of your skills and touring ability. I am only doing 32000miles a year half in the city , half touring.
Most of the time I do not have to change brake pads.
My previous bike done 70 000 miles in 27 months and I changed pads on the rear 5 times.
It wasn't the point to state how long they should last but to comment on exagerated WARNING thread that probably have nothing to it.

I like how you guys described my LC as pocket rocket but I bought GS and have no idea what you are talking about.

Even if my previous bike ZZR14 was your pocket rocket, I would like to know how with your enormous experience is it by you not a great touring bike

+

I personaly know 4 GS riders , non of them does more than 5000 miles a year and they certinally do not tour much , so your statistic is flawed by 75%

So would you not expect 14,000 miles out of your new bikes pads?

Brakes !!!!

Hey Baja...my last GS - 20,000 miles and the pads still had life in them.

I bet there will be people on here that exceeded that too.

Sounds like you ride the brakes a bit ?

That's true, the good old 1150, bought it new 2003, just back from the Dordonge yesterday . 30488 miles on original pads !!!!. :clap

On my short test ride I found the rear brake lever and gear lever set very poorly for my riding style and boot size. Is it possible some of you are keeping your toe accidently on the brake lever?
